Carbon Footprints? - Each of our families has one. You need just 5 numbers to get calculating. Here are some helpful places to find them:

  1. Find your automobile MPG information and number of miles driven a year for all of your vehicles.

    • http://fueleconomy.gov can provide the average MPG information for your vehicle.

  2. Estimate how many airline miles you travel in a year’s time

    • http://www.nwa.com/cgi-bin/wpmiles.cgi can provide city-to-city miles for average flights.

  3. Collect 1 year of your electric bills.

    • Call and request your billing history and usage report over the phone. You can receive this information by fax, mail or over the phone if you request it. Call NES at 615-736-6900

  4. Collect 1 year of your Gas/Propane/Heating Oil bills.

    • Call Nashville Gas at 800-752-7504 or go to the web at http://www.nashvillegas.com/residential/customerInformation

  5. Measure your trash.

    • Just count 10 gallons for each kitchen size garbage bag you throw out each week.

Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to use a Carbon Footprint Calculator like the one you can download from ourwebsite!
